The Road Information Management Systems (RIMS) Group exists to lead, promote, and develop best practice in road information management to ensure nationwide consistency and efficiency.

A committee of INGENIUM, it comprises members from Transit New Zealand, Land Transport New Zealand and local authorities.  The Chairman is Ian Marshall, Roading Asset Manager at Queenstown Lakes District Council.

The RIMS Group goal is to ensure that best practice road asset management systems are available in New Zealand to enable the optimal targeting of road asset maintenance funds which:

·         deliver accurate, timely and relevant information

·         are the most cost effective, least risk systems

·         need the business needs of road controlling authorities

Through RIMS Group activities, New Zealand now has two advanced road asset management systems in place – RAMM (Road Asset Maintenance and Management) and NZdTIMS (NZ Deighton’s Total Infrastructure Management Systems), as well as a range of best practice documents such as the Guidelines on Location Referencing Systems
